Local Street Racing?

I went out the the local street racing hangout this past weekend. I got some good kills.

My big question is how on earth can I get traction? I am still on my stock tires, but good lord.

I raced a gtp superchaged grand prix. He was boosting at 12 psi. dead even until 4th then I pulled a car lenght.

then I went three way with a 2000 or so ws6 t/a and a 2000 or so Z. from a stop light it was only a matter of seconds before they were about 4 car lengths ahead of me. When I caught up all three of us took off at 25 mph. I walked the z and I got the ws6 by a car and a half up to 120 mph.

later I ran a 96-98 z at 15 or so. He didn't stand a chance.

It really hurt my feelings when we took off from a light and I was so far back. I seriously cant get traction until middle of third. Any suggestions on street tires w/o spending an arm and a leg???

If you are at 6psi I call bullshit.

I've seen a bone stock 00 WS6 beat a TT supra with Downpipe and Exhaust. This was from a 40MPH roll. LS1 equipped WS6's will kill a Supercharged GSR unless that GSR is 9psi or beyond.

I never talked to the guy in the ws6 so I have no idea if he was on it. I did talk to the Z he said he was really surprised.

I have seen a stock ws6 on slicks pull a 12.9 so I know I couldn't hang.

That wasnt the point though what are good tires that I wont burn up half way through 3rd?

There is one variable that you are forgetting here... DRIVER SKILL LEVEL !!! The cars that he mentioned may very well be capable of stomping a mud-hole in his GSR... however, if the pilots suck... he may still win. Also, as he mentioned, if his opponent wasn't really "Racing", then he wins automatically... at least to him.

Lets save the BS bombs for those who claim they have emperical data or concrete indisputable proof that they run XX.XX in the quarter mile... kinda like a guy did here a few weeks ago.

Stock w/ bolt ons I was able to do a 14.7 in the quarter. The charger feels increadibly strong. A buddy of mine had an ls/vtec with type R pistons and put down 14.3's on street tires. That was in a 99 civic ex body.

He rode in my car that night with me. and said that my car pulled twice as hard as his ls/vtec.

Could someone just tell me what kind of tires would be decient!!

Z10 Radius Rods. I've heard some people recommending them. Otherwise, look into some ES motor mounts to reduce wheel hop.

Agreed.

ES mounts and TIRES!! Both will do a ton for traction but one without the other wont be as impressive.

To add to the list any good stiffer shock replacement, real clutch, and eventually.. Quaiffe fron Jim

Traction is always a big problem with a FWD car...
ES mounts help tremendously. In addition, there are adjustable shocks/struts that will assist in properly planting the tire contact patch to the pavement... not to mention the traction control systems from Moroso and Z10. Z10 claims that you can drive on the street with their set up, whereas Moroso says it should be used at the track only... funny thing is, these two products look almost identical !!!

Either way... those things should help.

Lastly, get a good set of drag radials and go street fighting.

I really don't have a problem with wheel hop! Where could I get ES mounts? How much will they run me? I plan to get a Quaiffe in the future, whem money permits. How much lighter is a type R flywheel and is it worth it?

right now I'm sitting on skunk2 springs and a set of tokico blue shocks. I wish they were adjustable.
